A new member will be going to add in your family or your friend’s family, in this scenario I will recommend you to do something special which will become a memory for a lifetime as I often do it myself like gift some cute handmade hats, diaper covers, layette set, etc. In this article, Sew Simple Hat demonstrates step by step with basic sewing steps, and you can also download free PDF pattern. Free Printable hat Pattern contains only single size which is for 1Mon-3Mon Toddler, Babies sizes can be varied so the probability lies in every pattern result. If you are making for standard size toddler then this pattern gives you perfect result and you can do grading for 3Mon+ hat with 0.25 to 0.75 Inch increment in a pattern.

PATTERN USED:

Sew Simple Hat pattern is for 0-3 size as I made a custom pattern so you can also take generalize measurement but it is too risky for newborn as there head is under development until age of 6 months(as far as i know), so used my pattern as standard. Download Free PDF Pattern below.

BASIC CUTTING:

Simple Hat has only 5 pieces: 4 piece of cone for CAP and 1 Piece for Shade or bias tape.

SEWING:

DEMONSTRATION:

Take two pieces of cones from four, take one piece lining and other one plain( do this for design purpose only, no requirement).
Simple hat demonstration: Step 1
Follow same steps for remaining two pieces.
Now assume each side 1, 2, 3, 4. and then join/pin 1 with 4 and 2 with 3.

Take little Gather from top of the hat and pin them.

Pin side of the bias tape.

Fold the pin part and looks like this

Final step join both cap and bias tape by giving small amount of gathers.

BASIC SEWING STEPS:

Newborn Hat: Sewing Steps

A simple hat for newborn, It has four pieces of cones. Sew cone 1 and 2 with each other refer demonstration for more clear experience. Assume it as piece A.
Piece 2 will be lining, as we have take one piece plain and other lining,
Repeat above 1 & 2 steps for cone 3 and 4. Assume it as piece B.
Place prepared piece A and B by joining their side.
Sew piece A and B
Attach shade/bias tape with hat top along with gathers.
